A world premiere for Sky One is a rarity, so expect to hear plenty about this new version of the antiquated sci-fi drama. The first was a Star Wars cash-in, and this series is informed by all we learnt from the space-based westerns that followed. However, fans of the (truly awful) 1978 original are unlikely to be thrilled. This ΓÇ£reimaginingΓÇ¥ takes the basic story ΓÇô a space ship seeking refuge after all human space colonies are destroyed ΓÇô then plays fast and loose (and better). The hostile Cylons are robots turned bad that are now taking human form to have great sex before they exterminate us. The battle scenes are brilliant, the air of bitter realism less heroic than Star Trek, and a post-War on Terror sense of fear runs through the characters. The showΓÇÖs only weakness is a reluctance to envision a world beyond America today ΓÇô powerful women have big hair, the bad guys sound English, and American-accented freedom fighters ΓÇ£kick Cylon assΓÇ¥ ΓÇô but a hit is on the cards.
